Hey what’s up Thinkers! Kathy Gibbens here…
You guys…I’m super excited, I just looked at the numbers for the show and can you believe this show has almost 100,000 downloads? Like, we’re less than 1500 downloads away from hitting 100,000!! Y’all, this is huge! This show hasn’t even been out for a year yet, AND I took several months off over the summer, which is normally the kiss of death for a podcast, but this one keeps growing and I’m super thankful! I am so glad you guys are enjoying it & learning along with me, and I just have one favor to ask - would you take just one quick minute and share the show with a friend who you think might like it also? It would go a long ways to helping me hit my goal of hitting 100,000 downloads by the end of the year, and it’ll also help more people learn these skills of good thinking!
Well, it’s Thanksgiving week so this is going to be a shorter episode, and it’s also going to be the only episode I release this week - we’ll be back to regular episodes again next week after the holidays.
The thing I wanted to talk about today is the practical application of what you’re learning here on the podcast. If you’ve made it to episode 88 of this podcast, you’ve learned a lot. You’ve listened to a lot of episodes about different logical fallacies, and I know you’re able to recognize bad thinking way more than you used to. But, HOW well are you recognizing them? Well, I created a simple, fun tool for you to be able to test yourself on how well you’re doing at that! It’s a fun little quiz I put together on my website…The Meme Fallacy Quiz! It’s a series of 10 different memes that I found or have seen on social media and each one contains a fallacy. This quiz will show you how well you do at recognizing & naming “fallacies in the wild”.And really, it’s meant to be a fun way to assess how well you’re retaining the info you’re learning here on the podcast & I’d love to have you check it out! Just go to: www.filteritthroughabraincell.com/quiz
And you can have your teen take the quiz, too! You’ll notice the last question asks if you’re an adult or a teen…I did this so I can segment the teens so they don’t get all the same emails I sent out to my email list. I have a teenager & I know I’m picky about who sends her emails & stuff, so I want to be really cognizant & respectful of that, too.
Since it is Thanksgiving week, I want to be sure that I pause and thank my Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ, for the privilege it is to teach people how to love God with their minds. I want to thank my awesome husband, Noble, for his love & support with this project, and to thank my daughter, Lena, for being my guinea pig at home for these conversations! And, I want to thank you, my awesome listeners. Truly, I am so grateful for your support, your warm feedback and for your desire to learn to think well and to learn to love God with your mind. It is my privilege to share these skills with you!
Lastly, I also want to thank this show’s sponsor, Classical Conversations. This is the homeschool curriculum we have been using for 11 years now, and we love it. It has been so good for our family. We love homeschooling, and we love doing it with a community of other like-minded families! The curriculum is thorough and it’s focus is to teach students the 15 tools of learning so they actually learn HOW TO LEARN and THINK for themselves! We’ve got 2 free ebooks that you can download now at classicalconversations.com/gibbens. Just fill out the form to get the books and to get more info as well.
Alright, that’s it for today!
Remember: When you learn HOW to think, you will no longer fall prey to those who are trying to tell you what THEY want you to think and it all starts with asking one simple question: “Is that really true?”
